CoaST Ambassador Programme

Our Ambassadors!
Way back in '05, six 'Surgery Sessions' kick-started the Building on Distinction Programme (BoD) and well over 70 tourism businesses joined CoaST for support and advice on sustainable practice.

A target of 12 "ambassadors" turned to 23. These, combined with 2004's CoaST "champions",  added up to more than 30 ambassador businesses as keen to share their knowledge with others as they were to increase their own.

The BoD programme set about finding what it was these businesses wanted to do to go sustainable and to get smart. And so began a slew of site visits, emails, phone calls, newsletters, gophering and lots and lots of support.   ...  (For more information please see the CoaST 2005 album - 'A year of investment - A year of Building on Distinction' below.)

As the ambassadors went about being all ambassadorial, interest increased; public, private and community groups wanted more information, and joined the Network. Within ten months, overall membership of the CoaST Network more than doubled from 250 to over 500.  And this was just the start ... these "early adopters" - the ones that recognised the opportunities - are really leading the way in terms of getting smart.

Today, they're working with CoaST and Cornwall College to actually teach the B-Tec in Sustainable Tourism they are being invited across the country to share their experiences and best practice, they are galvanising their local tourism associations and communities to get on board and they are they are putting Cornwall on the map as a truly sustainable destination.

The ambassador businesses, a few large and mostly small (and indeed tiny) are businesses with different objectives, at different stages of development, with different budgets, approaches and locations. What binds them is an understanding of how sustainable practice means higher quality, improved efficiency and happier visitors.

And we're recruiting new ones! If you're interested, download the application form at the bottom of the page and get it back to us. In return for six ambassadorial activities a year, we will offer the CoaST Ambassador logo; a place in the list below; and lots of mentions in our presentations and outreach. What you do as an ambassador is encourage others...so if you want to join the revolutionary front of change in sustainable business practice and think we can help others - we'd love to hear from you. You can find out a little more here.

And...the Ambassadors are now helping us run a new programme, called Ambassadors for Change...have a look here!

Quote of the Day
"I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."
Thomas Edison, 1931
