SECTA Green Acorn
SECTA Green Acorn Scheme How does this new SGA work?
In order to ensure the integrity of the scheme, we now carry out an inspection of the applicant initially before the award is given and then every 2 years. Anyone wishing to apply completes the application form available on the SECTA website at www.secta.org.uk/members and returns it to Mrs E Coles at the address given. She will then assess the measures being taken and discuss the application with the applicant. A visit is then arranged to ensure that the measures are in place. If over 50% of the criteria are met then the award is given. After the award has been given the premises will be re-inspected every 2 years to ensure that the criteria are still being met. SGA holders are given a premises sticker and a copy of the logo to use on all of their literature. Who can apply?
SGA is open to any business. If you are an accommodation business then you do not have to be star rated as is the case with other schemes. We want our scheme to be open to everyone. Future developments?
By offering the SGA outside of SECTA members we have been overwhelmed by the response. We realise that we need to offer more to SGA holders and we are therefore investigating a number of options. These include a dedicated SGA website, information on suppliers of green goods and services and a regular newsletter to make all holders aware of the good practices and ideas of others. What does it cost?
The principals of our scheme are simple: we want a locally delivered, easy to understand scheme where money available is spent on improvements not on the gaining of an award. A straightforward business can expect to pay around £95 for the first year and £47.50 for every year they remain in the scheme. Costs can be reduced if one or more businesses in the same locality are inspected at the same time. All costs will be set out at the time of application. How do I apply?
