One Planet Tourism

The concept of "One Planet" living came about from World Wildlife Fund, who calculated, with partners, that we in the west are currently using THREE planet's worth of resources compared to what would be fair global share out. And as far as we're aware, we have not found two spare planets we can go and plunder when this one runs out. And when we say resources, we're talking oil, water, air, soil, habitat, eco-systems...all those support systems and stuff that keeps us alive. This is not tree-hugging; not "saving the planet as it's such a lovely thing to do". It's about enlightened self interest.

One Planet Tourism, then, is exactly that. Tourism that operates within the economic, environmental and social limits of the one planet we have available; and then actively, on purpose, contributes back into that planet's economic, environmental and social well-being. Investing in it. For our own well-being. Wow. Radical thought? Not really. Rocket science it is not. It's just common sense. Unless, of course, anyone has come up with another planet... (and doesn't mind trashing this one and then just moving on)... because imagine how fantastic it would be if we all did that - one planet everything...just think.....:-)...what a fabulous future for us all could lie ahead...
