We get asked our opinion a lot.

While we don't pretend to have the answer to everything, we are hugely passionate about what we do and have accumulated a lot of information, expertise and techniques for switching people on to behaviour change. CoaST has been invited to be a member of the Sustainable Development Commission Panel, an ongoing forum to inform the SDC's policy and engagement work programmes.  This is how they describe themselves:

What is the SDC? The Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) is the Government's independent watchdog on sustainable development. Through advocacy, advice and appraisal, we help put sustainable development at the core of Government policy.

Their work is divided into ten policy areas:

climate change, consumption, economics, education and young people, energy, engagement, health, housing, regional and local government and transport.

Each policy area is led by a steering group of Commissioners and SDC staff. You can find more at www.sd-commission.org.uk

The SDC and engagement

There is an emerging recognition of the importance of public and stakeholder deliberation and engagement at the heart of governments in the UK, specifically its value in creating better policy and more robust outcomes. The SDC aims to promote an engagement-focused approach both within its own work and across UK governments.

Creating a forum for debate

The Sustainable Development Panel (the Panel) was launched by the SDC in September 2006. Its aim is to create an ongoing deliberative forum to inform the SDC's policy and engagement work programmes. It is a fixed group of over 500 stakeholders, individually selected to ensure a wide range of experience and skills from many sectors.

It represents a novel new way of engaging with stakeholders through a variety of different methods.
